USA Network Cancels 'The 4400' And 'The Dead Zone'
The shows aired their season finales in September, so the news comes as a surprise to fans who are wondering why USA waited to long to make an announcement and didn't give the either serie the conclusion it deserves. In a statement 'The 4400' creator Scott Peters said, "We've had a great time bringing you this story and submersing you in the lives of all these incredible characters... I wish we could go on forever, but the party has come to an end." 'The Dead Zone' debuted in 2002 as basic cable’s most-viewed series ever at the time with 6.4 million viewers but averaged 2.3 million viewers over its final season, well below the 4.1 million viewers it averaged in its first season. The 4400 actually beat 'Dead Zone’s viewership record when it debuted in 2004 with 7.4 million viewers and it averaged 6.1 million viewers, but like 'Dead Zone' declined and averaged only 2.4 million viewers in its fourth season. USA's exec of programming, Jeff Wachtel, said: "We wish we could keep all our great shows alive forever. But we feel we need to give some of our new shows a platform to grow, and it's with great sadness that we say goodbye to two shows that had a great run and helped create the resurgence of original programming on our network and on all of cable."
USA Network has shocked fans of two of its long-running original series, 'The 4400' and 'The Dead Zone', by announcing they will not return for new seasons in 2008.
