Judge Turns Down Richard Hatch's Request To Star In Anniversary 'Survivor'
Hatch won $1 million on the debut season of the reality show but was convicted in 2006 of failing to pay taxes on his winnings. He spent about three years in federal prison and is currently serving the final 90 days of his sentence in home confinement in Newport, Rhode Island. Hatch last week asked a federal judge for permission to leave for Samoa next month, when filming begins. He argued that he would use any money he earned on the show to pay his tax obligations, estimated to be around $400,000, but District Judge William Smith denied Hatch's request. Hatch had his shot on the first 'Survivor: All-Stars' so it won't necessarily be a bad thing to see some lesser seen faces on the show's special 10th anniversary edition. The 'Survivor' crew will spend nearly 3 1/2 months filming two seasons back to back this summer.
