Days after Rachael Ray made an appearance on Martha Stewart's show in a most uncomfortable segment, the homemaking queen says she doesn't like being compared to her television nemesis.
"Well, to me, she professed that she could -- cannot bake," Stewart tells 'Nightline'.
"She just did a new cookbook which is just a re-edit of a lot of her old recipes and that's not good enough for me."
Stewart says when she does a book, she wants to do something that "is a unique and lasting thing. Something that will really fulfill a need in someone's library." But, she explains, Ray's standards are "different."
"She is more of an entertainer, with her bubbly personality, than she is a teacher, like me."
In Rachael Ray's appearance on 'The Martha Stewart Show' last Friday, the tension was obvious -- especially from Martha's side. She cut off Rachael several times, then went on to tell her about a special invitation she had received as they baked a pie.
"Puffy's having his birthday party next week, and I got an invitation. Did you?," she asked.
"No I didn't," responded a somewhat surprised Ray.
"All those rappers are cute. Don't you think?," said Stewart.
"I think they're all pretty darned cute. The ones that have come by my show, but it didn't get me invited to anyone's birthday party," joked Ray.
"I think I have something on you. They like me for my wherewithal," concluded Stewart.
For her part, Rachael Ray is playing down the comments: "Why would it make me mad? Her skill set is far beyond mine. That's simply the reality of it. That doesn't mean that what I do isn't important too. I really just think she's being honest."
"She does have a better skill set than I do when it comes to producing a beautiful, perfect, high-quality meal," says Ray. "I'd rather eat Martha's than mine, too."
