Jon & Kate Gosselin could be officially divorced by the end of the year.
The development comes after Jon conceded physical custody of the children to Kate following weekend mediations.
"It was a positive move in the right direction for us to bring them together to the mediation table. There were a couple of very emotional moments, but in the end it all came together and concluded on a happy note," says Kate's lawyer Mark Heller.
But don't expect the two to be making up anytime soon. Kate turned down a bouquet of red roses that Jon offered at the divorce arbitration hearing, much to the delight of onlookers. His lawyer says Jon brought them "as a peace offering to try to melt down the freeze that he perceives to be coming from the other side."
Meanwhile, the reality series that turned pushed the Gosselins out of obscurity, 'Jon & Kate Plus 8', came to its own resolution Monday night as TLC aired the show's finale.
But Kate Gosselin wasn't ready to let go and called the wrap-up of the series "needless, useless" and "totally avoidable."
The cable network was forced to shut down production after Jon demanded that they no longer use his kids in the production -- after he was ousted from the program.
"This is a very bittersweet goodbye for me because the kids are already missing it," said Kate. "Our show has provided the opportunities for us to travel and do and see that we wouldn't otherwise have had. It was really working for us and I just feel it ended so suddenly. I feel like it's been taken from us, from me and the kids."
"Our marriage fell apart and I felt like I was free," Jon Gosselin told the show's cameras. "And I kinda took advantage of it for a while and didn't really think about my actions, obviously, until I started getting paparazzi and written about. But that's maturing. That's growing up."
"It's unfortunate our marriage failed, but our family shouldn't fail. We're going to strive to do better and be the best parents we can, whether we're married or not. And we're definitely not going to be married ever again."
