Beyonce Knowles [photosBeyonce Knowles photos] leads the field heading into the 52nd Grammy Awards with 10 nominations, followed closely by Taylor Swift, who has seemingly won every award this year, scored eight nods.

Beyonce is nominated for song of the year for 'Single Ladies' and record of the year for 'Halo', both from her 'I Am... Sasha Fierce' album. The 19-year-old Swift, who was also nominated in both categories, is the best-selling artist in the country this year, if you don't include Michael Jackson.

Meanwhile, the Black Eyed Peas, Maxwell and Kanye West received six nominations each, while Lady Gaga, Jay-Z and DJ David Guetta got five each. Gaga garnered a best album mention for her debut CD and 'Poker Face' was nominated for record and song of the year.

She was not eligible for best new act due to a technicality because her debut single, 'Just Dance', was nominated for best dance recording last year.

Michael Giacchino, who composes the music for 'Lost', got four nominations thanks to his noteworthy work in 'Up' and 'Star Trek'.

Surprises included Whitney Houston being shutout of nominations despite her much publicized comeback album, Bruce Springsteen receiving four nominations, and U2 garnering just three nods.

The major categories were revealed at Club Nokia in Los Angeles as part of a televised concert for the second year in a row. In the past, they had been announced during a morning news conference but the format seems to be working.

The evening included performances by Maxwell, who sang Michael Jackson's 'The Lady In My Life', Nick Jonas, and Black Eyed Peas. Winners will be announced on January 31.
