'Avatar' is take over the domestic box-office record after leading all movies for a seventh straight week.
This after Cameron's 3-D blockbuster earned another $30 million over the weekend to push its domestic total to $594.5 million.
That puts the film just $6 million behind the $600.8 million domestic earnings for 'Titanic'. 'Avatar' already passed the worldwide earnings for 'Titanic' last week and is now, in fact, past the $2 billion worldwide mark. It could pass 'Titanic' by early this week.
The film is expected to be nominated for best picture when Oscar nominations are announced on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Mel Gibson's 'Edge of Darkness' debuted in second with $17.1 million and 'When in Rome', starring Kristen Bell [photos] and Josh Duhamel, followed with $12.1 million.
Family comedy 'Tooth Fairy', now in its second week, took fourth place as 'Legion' dropped a notch to Denzel Washington starrer 'Book of Eli'.
