Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin managed to have some fun as they picked on some of the biggest names at the Oscars.
"Welcome to the 82nd annual Academy Awards. Everyone wants an Oscar, but they're very hard to get," said Martin. "Ballots are sent out to 6,000 members of the academy."
"And then, no matter what, they nominate Meryl Streep," added Baldwin. "Meryl Streep holds the record for most nominations as an actress. Or as I like to think of it, most losses."
"But I know you loved Invictus, Steve," said Martin. "Because it combines two of your favourite passions: Rugby and tensions between blacks and whites."
"Oh look, there’s Vera Farmiga, the co-star of Up in the Air. Did I pronounce that right?," wondered Baldwin. "Up ... in ... the ... Air."
"Oh, and look, it's that damn Helen Mirren," said Martin as he pointed out the actress. "Steve, that’s DAME Helen Mirren."
"I know! Wait a minute now, is that the director of Avatar, James Cameron?," the pair said as they donned the 3-D glasses, "Why, yes, yes it is! Did you know, Steve, that that cutaway of James Cameron has already earned $3-million?"
"You know, Alec, it's an amazing fact that James Cameron used to be married to the director of another nominated film, The Hurt Locker, Kathryn Bigelow. And she was so pleased to be nominated with him she sent him a beautiful gift basket... with a timer! And he reciprocated with a Toyota!"
"Who else? And over here is the Inglourious Basterds section," said Martin as he pointed to one side. "And over here (now pointing the other way) are the people who made the movie."
"In Inglourious Basterds, Christoph Waltz played a Nazi obsessed with finding Jews. Well, Christoph," said Martin as he spread his arms. "The motherlode!"
"Steve, an interesting fact. Did you know the moustache that Brad Pitt wore in Inglourious Basterds was the same one that Salma Hayek [photos] wore in Frida?," Baldwin joked about the actor's facial hair.
"Well, Steve. Some of the youngest stars are also here tonight: Zac Efron and Taylor Lautner. Take a good look at us, guys. This is you in five years."
"Now we'd like to introduce two beautiful actresses. Because frankly, we're sick and tired of bringing out all these ugly actresses." said Martin as he introduced presenters Carey Mulligan and Zoe Saldana.
