Although the majority of 'Bachelor' and 'Bachelorette' contestants like to pretend it doesn't happen, the show's creator confirms that the show's stars do typically have sex with several suitors during the show.
"There is sex," explains creator Mike Fleiss on ABC's 'Inside The Bachelor' special.
"There's not a ton of it, I think the average is that the guy will end up having sex with about three women during the course of the show."
Asked who holds the record for 'highest batting average', Fleiss enthusiastically replies: "That's my man Bob Guiney!"
"I think it was five and half," says Fleiss of the fourth-season 'Bachelor'. We're guessing the half means getting to third base.
"Bob had just come off the Trista season of the Bachelorette so his popularity was enormous. Women were in love with him right from the start."
Mortgage broker Estella Gardinier won the final rose, but she and Guiney broke up soon after the show aired. He then got married to 'All My Children' star Rebecca Budig, but their marriage of five years recently ended.
Fleiss also admits that all participants are tested for sexually transmitted diseases before production begins.
So who is his favorite star through all the seasons? "Trista is the all-time greatest," says Fleiss of the first 'Bachelorette' who married -- and is still married -- to her selected suitor Ryan Sutter. "Trista's the Hall of Famer. She's the Willie Mays of Bachelorettes and people just love her."
"We weren't sure going into the first season whether the women would really care, we thought there might be a turn-off," explains Fleiss.
"I remember doing Season one and getting a panicked call from the network and hearing, 'Mike, you've got to do something about this, they aren't falling in love!' That was the initial thought, that we had to have real love and a marriage."
"But now we know that's not necessarily true, it's really based on whether the viewers like the guy and hate the girls."
