Mickey Rourke Says He Has 'No Idea' What 'Iron Man' Is About
Mickey Rourke says he has no idea what 'Iron Man 2' is about. "I have no idea what's in the movie or what it's about, to be honest with you," Rourke tells UK paper 'Daily Mail'. "I read my character. I didn't read a lot of the other stuff too clearly." But Rourke insists it's not because he was too lazy to read the rest of the script or watch the finished film. "I kind of don't want to know what's going on," he says. As for his role, the 53-year-old says he "didn't want to play a one-dimensional villain." Rourke plays villainous loner Whiplash in the movie. "I said to Jon Favreau (director) that I'd like him to have a sense of humour. I'd like him to have a particular look. I'd like to do it with the accent. I could see him shaking his head, and I knew I was taking the chance that he could just say goodbye, thank you for coming in. But he embraced the ideas." Jon Favreau also reveals the casting almost didn't happen due to the higher ups at Marvel Studios. "There was a lot of resistance to him," explains Favreau. "The studio was not inclined to hire him. It took a bit of a struggle and Robert was very helpful in that. And Robert was the guy who there was resistance in hiring last time around."
