The Unaired 'Big Bang Theory' Pilot, Without Kaley Cuoco (Video)
Only Johnny Galecki (Leonard) and Jim Parsons (Sheldon) were in the cast, and the female lead, Katie, was envisioned as "a street-hardened, tough-as-nails woman with a vulnerable interior." In fact, the show, which featured two female leads -- Katie played by Amanda Walsh and Gilda played by Iris Bahr -- wasn't even picked up based on the pilot, but the creators were given an opportunity to retool to its current format. In speaking about the unaired pilot, which has never been released in an official capacity, in the past creator Chuck Lorre didn't pull any punches. "We did the 'Big Bang Pilot' about two and a half years ago, and it sucked," he said. "But there were two remarkable things that worked perfectly, and that was Johnny and Jim. We rewrote the thing entirely, and then we were blessed with Kaley and Simon and Kunal." Today 'The Big Bang Theory' is one of the highest rated sitcoms on television. Check out the pilot below:
