Senate Passes Bill To Ban Loud Television Commercials

The Senate has finally done something about those annoyingly loud television commercials.

It has unanimously passed a bill titled Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (CALM) that requires commercials to be the same volume as the television show they accompany.

The Federal Communication Commission has been receiving complaints about blaring commercials for decades now but, until the passing of CALM, essentially believed that regulating the volume of commercials would be too large a task with commercials and shows from a multitude of different sources.

However, that became easier to accomplish since an industry organization recently introduced guidelines on how to transmit audio in a consistent way with the use of additional equipment.

The Senate can now move on to more pressing matters but it's nice to see an old issue that all Americans can agree on finally addressed.
