Hollywood couple Courteney Cox [photos] and David Arquette have separated after 11 years of marriage.
"We have agreed to a trial separation that dates back for some time," the pair say in a surprise statement. "The reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage."
The 46-year-old Cox and 39-year-old Arquette married in 1999 after meeting on the set of the first 'Scream' movie. They went on to co-star in the next two movies in the franchise and also appear in the upcoming 'Scream 4'.
"We remain best friends and responsible parents to our daughter and we still love each other deeply," continues the statement. "As we go through this process we are determined to use kindness and understanding to get through this together."
"We are comfortable with the boundaries that we have established for each other during this separation and we hope that our friends, family, fans and the media also show us respect, dignity, understanding and love at this time as well."
Arquette recently revealed with Howard Stern that his wild ways wasn't something Cox was a big fan of.
"Courteney recently said to me, On our 11th anniversary... 'I don't want to be your mother any more."
Last summer Cox showed up for an interview with In Style magazine her wedding ring and candidly admitted, "We've done couples therapy in the past."
"We're not lazy about our marriage," she said. "We have the same arguments we've had for years."
They have one daughter together, 6-year-old Coco.
And while they may be separated, their careers remain intertwined with Arquette an executive producer on Cox's 'Cougar Town'.
