Mickey Rooney Gets Restraining Order Against Abusive Stepson

Mickey Rooney has been granted a temporary restraining order against his stepson, who is accused of withholding food, medicine and financially and verbally abusing him.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Reva Goetz approved the order for Rooney after the 90-year-old's attorneys said he lived in fear of stepson Chris Aber.

"Chris is verbally abusive toward Mickey," the court filing states. "He yells and screams at Mickey. He threatens, intimidates, bullies, and harasses Mickey. He is effectively a prisoner in his own home."

The order requires Aber to stay 100 yards away from Rooney and his home and not contact the actor until a hearing next week, when the restraining order may be extended.

"All I want to do is live a peaceful life, to regain my life and be happy," Rooney says in a statement. "I pray to God each day to protect us, help us endure, and guide those other senior citizens who are also suffering."

Mickey Rooney won multiple awards, including an Honorary Academy Award, a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award, during his career. He has had one of the longest careers of any actor.
