John Travolta has been cast to play John Gotti Sr. in the film 'Gotti: Three Generations'.
The independent film will be a biopic centered on the infamous crime family and the drama surrounding it.
It will reportedly focus on the relationship between Gotti Sr. and son John Gotti Jr., who took over the family business after his father died.
Gotti's downfall came in 1992, when his underboss Sammy Gravano decided to cooperate with the FBI. Gravano's cooperation brought down Gotti, along with most of the top members of the Gambino family, one of the 'Five Families' that control organized crime activity in New York City.
Gravano agreed to testify for the prosecution against Gotti after hearing the boss make several disparaging remarks about Gravano and questioning his loyalty on wiretap.
In 1992, Gotti was convicted of five murders, conspiracy to commit murder, racketeering, obstruction of justice, illegal gambling, extortion, tax evasion, and loansharking.
He was sentenced to life in prison without parole and died of throat cancer in 2002.
