New Jersey's Gov. Chris Christie has vetoed the $420,000 tax credit 'Jersey Shore' received for filming the first season of the MTV reality show in the state.
"I have no interest in policing the content of such projects," the governor says in a statement.
"However, as chief executive I am duty-bound to ensure that taxpayers are not footing a $420,000 bill for a project which does nothing more than perpetuate misconceptions about the state and its citizens."
The move was unusual because it not only put an end to future tax credits for the show, but also vetoed what it was supposed to receive for its first season.
Film industry professionals in the state had testified last week that targeting certain shows and vetoing credits could have a chilling effect on production companies considering New Jersey.
It also put Christie in the role of content police since let he credits for other shows stand.
The program gave film and television production companies a 20 percent tax credit on their expenses in New Jersey.
