Andrew Garfield & Emma Stone Drop More Details About 'Spider-Man' Reboot

Even though the 'The Amazing Spider-Man's release is still months away, the cast and producers of the film began their publicity tour in Japan this week.

Producer Avi Arad began by describing what he thought was a key difference in the film, compared to the series of movies starring Tobey Maguire.

"In our movie, Peter finds his true love. Gwen Stacy was always the true love of Peter Parker. We found a very, very good story about what makes a human being. About what sets their destiny.

Andrew Garfield, who will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man, then spoke about director Marc Webb's vision for the film.

"As you can see, a lot of the stunts are practical and grounded in reality. That was something that Marc, the director, really wanted to make sure happened in this movie to set it apart from previous ones."

"I had about four months of training. I would exhaust myself every day and get into near-death experiences every hour on the hour. I collaborated with the stunt guys not only on the big set-pieces but also on what happens to Peter's body when he gets bitten. What happens to his DNA and how that effects the way he moves and the way he interacts with objects."

"The idea that he has spider DNA running in his system. What that will do to his sense of space. What that will do to the sensitivity of his skin. To have an opportunity to play in that forum with creative and talented people was a real opportunity and gift."

As for any pressure he felt given the last film starring Maguire was barely five years ago, Andrew admitted it was natural: "I think if we didn't feel any pressure, we wouldn't be doing our jobs properly. It's an important, mythical, fictional figure, that I know is deeply, deeply important to me personally."

"I think a healthy amount of pressure is probably a positive thing. Not just because of the fact Tobey, Sam Raimi and Kirsten Dunst did incredible work and honored the vision of Stan Lee, but actually because of the further history of the character."

But reporters at the event also had an important question for Emma Stone, who plays Gwen Stacy: "Could fans expect a moment as iconic as the upside-down kiss shared in the film?"

"You don't want to know, you want to watch the movie and find out," she replied with a smile. "It would be weird if we were like, 'Yes, there will be something iconic coming up.'"

"You've got to decide if it's iconic or not. There is a nice first kiss, I will say that, and it's different than the upside-down one... We liked it."

The film, which has a release date of June 30 in Japan, will be released in North America on July 3 and roll out to most other countries the following day.
