'The Help' Beats Out 'The Artist', Complete List Of SAG Awards Winners: [ send to a friend ]
'The Artist's cast couldn't beat that of 'The Help' for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Motion Picture on Sunday night.
The actors, which make up the awards' largest voting bloc, also recognized Viola Davis as Outstanding Actress for her role in the film.
"Thank you for putting me in a category with so many beautiful women I know and love," she said, dedicating her award to "the down-trodden, the under-served, the underprivileged and the over-taxed, whether emotionally, physically or financially."
Though the cast of 'The Artist' missed out on the night's top honor, French actor Jean Dujardin was rewarded as an Outstanding Actor in the silent feature.
"My God, my God, my God, my God," the actor said. "It's too much. I was a very bad student. I didn't listen in class, I was always dreaming. My teachers called me, 'Jean de la Lune, Jean of the Moon,' and I realize now that I never stopped dreaming. Thank you very much, thank you for this dream."
On the television side, Jessica Lange built on her Golden Globes success with Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama for her role in 'American Horror Story'. Meanwhile, Betty White won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for the second year in a row.
"This is a terrible mistake," joked the 90-year-old White. "I don't think they can read. You can't name me without naming those other wonderful women on Hot in Cleveland. This nomination, I was thrilled of course, but the nomination belongs to the four of us... I'm not going to let them keep this, but I'll let them see it!"
