Mel Gibson's feud with 'Maccabees' screenwriter Joe Eszterhas has been thrust back into the spotlight after the scribe released audio of the actor going off on a profanity laced rant.
Eszterhas says the recording was made by Eszterhas' 15-year-old son while they were staying at Gibson's home in Costa Rica last December.
"Gibson called me a liar," he says, of the reason to release the audio. "And I also have some reason to believe he's creating a PR blitz questioning my truthfulness."
In the nearly two-and-a-half-minute rant, Gibson yells at Eszterhas for not providing him with a draft of their movie collaboration, The Maccabees.
"Why don't I have a first draft of The Maccabees? What the f--k have you been doing?," he says.
He later refers to his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, as he yells "I am earning money for a filthy little c--ksucker who takes advantage of me!"
Last week, in an open letter, Eszterhas blasted Mel Gibson for passing on his script for Maccabees, a film about the Jewish hero Judah Maccabee, because he "hates Jews" and alleged that the actor threatened to kill ex-girlfriend Oksana.
"The bottom line is it shows to me he badly needs help," says Eszterhas. "My interest isn't to damage him with this tape but to prevent damage being done to others, starting with Jews, including Oksana and now, I'm sure, me."
"I strongly believe that unless he seeks and receives some kind of psychiatric help, someone is going to get hurt."
