Alec Baldwin says he didn't punch a New York Daily News photographer while picking up a marriage license in Manhattan earlier this week.
But that isn't stopping the '30 Rock' star from joking about it.
Baldwin, who claimed it wasn't the first time he encountered photographer Marcus Santos, said he simply pushed Santos out of the way because, he almost hit him in the face with the camera.
"He's very masterful at getting really close to you with the camera. They want you to react. No one got punched by the way," Baldwin said.
"I kinda pushed him out of the way because he almost hit me in the face with the camera," he said. "Had I punched him. I'd be in jail. Then I would have pressed charges against him for assault."
"Then we would both be in the jail cell together. And you don't want to know what would happen in the jail cell, if we were together in the jail cell."
"There's a different part of the press, what I would call the illegitimate press, who, they have made an appointment for me that I wasn't aware of, and they come jumping out of the bushes to remind me about it. And that's a problem."
Letterman then showed the photo of the scuffle.
"I think you can see I'm forming the letter F with my mouth," joked Baldwin. "And what I'm saying is... 'What F-stop are you on with the camera?' And he said, 'I'm on a something,' and I said, 'That's not the F-stop. You have to set the camera on the right F-stop!'"
Santos has filed an assault complaint against the actor.
"I knew he was going to attack me," he recalled. "I stepped back, and he kept coming. He comes after me, starts shoving and punching me -- one time, right in the chin. And then he started shoving me, and pushing me. Then he goes the other way."
Baldwin was obtaining a marriage license for his impending nuptials with fiancée Hilaria Thomas.
