Jennifer Hudson will join NBC's 'Smash' with a recurring role in season two.
Hudson will appear in a multi-episode arc on the music drama, beginning with the season premiere, as a Tony Award-winning Broadway star named Veronica Moore.
Hudson will create turmoil in the lives of stars Katharine McPhee's Karen and Megan Hilty's Ivy.
"This series is a showcase for some of the best musical talent in the business and that's a fitting description for Jennifer Hudson," says NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt.
"Her character will represent someone who reached their Broadway dream but also paid a price for it."
Hudson, who arrived on the scene like McPhee with 'American Idol', won an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in 2006's 'Dreamgirls'.
