Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes [photos] are ending their five-year marriage.
"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," says Holmes's attorney Jonathan Wolfe. "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."
The 49-year-old Cruise wed the 33-year-old Holmes in 2006 in an Italian castle after publicly declaring his love by emphatically jumping on Oprah Winfrey's couch.
"I can't be cool. I can't be laid-back," said Cruise at the time." "Something happened and I want to celebrate it."
The couple, who married after a year of dating, has a 6-year-old daughter, Suri. Holmes is said to be seeking "primary residential custody."
Cruise was previously married to actress Nicole Kidman from 1990-2001 and Mimi Rogers from 1987-1990. This was the first marriage for Holmes, who was previously engaged to actor Chris Klein.
Cruise, who is currently starring in 'Rock of Ages', has been in Iceland filming 'Oblivion'.
