The cover for JK Rowling's first book since 'Harry Potter' has been released.
The art for the novel, aimed at adults, shows only a marked ballot to hint at the book's election storyline.
In politics, a casual vacancy is a situation in which a seat in a deliberative assembly is vacated after the death, resignation or disqualification of the sitting member.
The book's storyline centers around the unexpected death of a resident in the "seemingly idyll" town of Pagford.
"Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils. Pagford is not what it first seems," reads the synopsis.
"And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity, and unexpected revelations?"
The 512 page book is set to hit stores on September 27, 2012.
