Justin Bieber was pulled over and cited for speeding over 100 miles per hour in his Fisker Karma sports car on the 101 freeway in the San Fernando Valley.
The 18-year-old singer was stopped after weaving in and out of traffic at speeds above the posted limit.
"At 10:45 this morning CHP officers observed two vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed on the 101 freeway near Coldwater Canyon," said Officer Vince Ramirez, a California Highway Patrol spokesman.
"Our officer conducted an enforcement stop on one of the two vehicles. He pulled the vehicle completely off the freeway and made contact with the driver. The driver was identified as Justin Bieber."
Bieber, driving the $100,000 Fisker Karma he received for his 18th birthday, told officers he was being chased by paparazzi.
Eyewitness Los Angeles City Councilman Dennis Zine said Bieber was breaking the law by driving recklessly and speeding, even if the paparazzi were hounding him.
"This was very bizarre, very outrageous and showed a total disregard for life and property," Zine said. "The way he was driving was totally reckless, I would have arrested him if I had pulled him over. I wouldn't have given him a ticket and let him go."
