A New York City bus driver is being hailed as a hero for saving a seven-year-old girl who fell three storeys from a Brooklyn apartment building.
The man, named Stephen St. Bernard, was walking home from work when he saw commotion outside the building. What he saw was a girl standing and jumping on an air conditioning unit outside the window.
"I just prayed that I'd catch her," Bernard says. "'Please let me catch her, please let me catch her.' That's all I could say. I picked her up and carried her. ... She kept looking around. She never closed her eyes. She never lost consciousness."
The young girl, who has autism, suffered a few bruises. St. Bernard left the scene with a torn tendon in his shoulder.
