Fred Willard says his recent lewd conduct arrest at an adult movie theatre was "very embarrassing" but insists he did "nothing wrong."
"It's the last time I'm going to listen to my wife when she says, 'Why don't you go and see a movie?,'" Willard joked in an appearance with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday's 'Late Night'.
The 72-year-old actor and Fallon then traded jokes about possible titles for the movie he saw.
"Well, the movie you went to see… was it The Firm"," cracked Fallon. "Free Willy? Anaconda?"
"No, sadly, it was Get Shorty," quipped Willard.
"But I think at the end of that movie, someone gets whacked," Fallon said as he took it home.
But Willard, who has guest starred in shows from 'Modern Family' to 'Everybody Loves Raymond' and was dropped from his PBS show 'Market Warriors' after the incident, said the arrest had left him embarrassed.
"It's very embarrassing. It's as embarrassing as hell," Willard said. "But let me say this: Nothing happened. I did nothing wrong. Everything is being sorted out as we speak."
"I have great respect for the authorities. I mean, when we need a policeman, God bless 'em, they're there. But, if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, everything seems suspicious."
"But it's very embarrassing," he reiterated. "Very painful. And I'm trying to laugh it off. But my summary of the evening is that it's an interesting theater, boring movie, and a great place to take a nap."
"You're a good man," replied Fallon. "You're one of my favourites."
"You can come to our show and do whatever the heck you want, except for certain things," he joked as he ended the interview.
