After 16-plus years together, Bret Michaels and Kristi Gibson have called off their engagement.
"Although the couple have separated they remain great friends and are committed to jointly raising their two daughters, Raine Elizabeth and Jorja Bleu," the singer's publicist says in a statement.
The musician-turned-reality star met Gibson in the mid-90s. They dated on and off until Michaels had a brief relationship with Pamela Anderson [photos].
But following the fling with the 'Baywatch' star, the two were together again for 16 years before finally getting engaged as Michaels proposed to Gibson in 2010 during the finale of his VH1 reality show, 'Bret Michaels: Life as I Know It'.
"Please say yes or the rejection will kill me right now," the Poison frontman told her.
Months before the engagement, Michaels said the two would make a commitment soon but until then he had given Kristi a "beautiful promise ring... it's a promise ring, or a friendship ring, with benefits."
In recent years, Gibson stayed by Michaels' side as he recovered from a brain hemorrhage and stroke.
