Dane Cook is apologizing for his poor taste after using the movie theater massacre in Aurora, Colorado as fodder for his stand-up routine.
Performing at the Los Angeles' Laugh Factory, Cook joked that it some fans wanted to be shot because of how bad 'The Dark Knight Rises' was.
"I heard that the guy came into the theater about 25 minutes in," he said. "And I don't know if you've seen the movie, but the movie's pretty much a piece of crap. Yeah, spoiler alert."
"I know that if none of that would have happened, I'm pretty sure that somebody in that theater, about 25 minutes in realizing it was a piece of crap, probably was like, 'Ugh, f--king shoot me.'"
But Cook is apologizing for exercising "bad judgment" after the joke caused a storm of backlash against the comedian for being anything but funny.
"I am devastated by the recent tragedy in Colorado and did not mean to make light of what happened," he says. "I made a bad judgment call with my material last night and regret making a joke at such a sensitive time. My heart goes out to all of the families and friends of the victims."
The 24-year-old suspect, James Holmes, is currently facing 24 counts of first-degree murder after 12 people died in the attack.
