Several reports, based on insider information linked to close friends of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart [photos], suggest that the actor was on the verge of proposing to his 'Twilight' co-star just days before she was caught cheating on him.
Stewart admitted to cheating on the "most important thing in my life", as she put it, last week after she was photographed cuddling with and kissing 'Snow White and the Hunstman' director Rupert Sanders.
"Friends of Robert have told us that this was the woman that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with and he was actually very close to proposing when he heard about the affair," reports Us Weekly.
This follows earlier reports that Pattinson had bought a $5 million house in Los Angeles to share with Stewart once they were married.
Rumors had been circulating that the couple had already tied the knot but, in a recent interview with Blackbook magazine, Patterson said: "No one ever knows what is true or what isn't. It's not. At least, not yet. But it is true that Kristen has always done something to me that others haven't."
Stewart and Pattinson had been together for three years. Moving vans have been spotted outside the home the pair shared this week.
