Jon Gosselin, once the star of TLC reality show 'Jon and Kate Plus 8', says he could face prison time because he is unable to cope with both his monthly rent and child support payments for his eight children.
"I can't afford to pay my rent and the domestic-relations staff tell me they will put me in jail unless I pay child support," the 35-year-old tells Star magazine. "I am a single father who's trying to make ends meet during a recession. What do I do - pay child support or rent? I need to support my kids, but I could lose my house, and I need my home to continue to have custody."
"I'm going to end up in jail because I can't afford to pay child support to Kate who has plenty of money. I think this is completely ridiculous!," he says. "I'm doing the best I can, but life is so expensive with eight kids!"
"We have eight children and they need us, she is putting reality TV and dating in front of the kids who need to have their mother. Why not date the old fashioned way? I know I have a lot to be thankful for, but Kate's need to be famous is not one of them."
The 37-year-old Kate has been reportedly shopping around her own reality show following her as she looks for love.
But his ex-wife's lawyer, Cheryl Young, isn't buying any of Jon Gosselin's comments.
"I read Jon's statement and was quite surprised to read that he claims to be struggling to keep his child support payments current," says Young. "As of April 27, 2012, Kate voluntarily relieved Jon of all current and future child support obligations for their eight children."
Jon and Kate spent 5 years on TLC documenting their daily lives with their eight children, but were forced to cut short due to a bitter divorce in 2009. While Kate has continued to pursue her TV career, Jon claims that his past popularity still interferes with his private life and has struggled to find a job.
