Stevie Wonder, whose real name is Stevland Hardaway Morris, has filed for divorce from his wife of 11 years, Kai Millard.
The official split was forthcoming since the couple separated in 2009. The 62-year-old cited irreconcilable differences behind his request and has asked for custody of their 2 children, Kailand, 10 and Mandla, 7. He has also agreed to pay child and spousal support.
"Today Stevland Morris filed for divorce, ending his marriage to Kai Millard Morris," read an official statement issued on behalf of the couple. "As this is a private and personal matter, he asks that the public and the media kindly respect the privacy of Kai, his children, and family at this time."
Wonder has been married twice in the past and fathers seven children from all his relationships. He has hired celebrity divorce attorney, Laura Wasser, who has handled divorces including Angelina Jolie [photos] from Billy Bob Thornton, Robyn Gibson from Mel Gibson and Britney Spears [photos] from Kevin Federline.
In 2008, Wonder was listed by Billboard as being the fifth best artist of all time, following stars such as Elvis Presley, Madonna, The Beatles and Elton John.
