Newly acquired Miami Dolphins' receiver Chad Johnson was arrested on Saturday in Davie, Miami after getting into a heated argument with his newly-wed wife Evelyn Lozada.
"Johnson and his wife, Evelyn Lozada, were at dinner and she confronted him about a receipt she had found for a box of condoms," detailed Davie police Captain Dale Engle. "The argument got heated and continued on the drive home."
After the incident, Lozada was taken to hospital, where she was treated to a cut on her forehead, after allegedly being head-butted by Johnson.
"She alleges he leaned over and head-butted her. He says she leaned towards him and that they butted heads," explained Engle.
Johnson has been charged with simple battery and domestic violence and at Broward County Jail and released on $2,500 bond.
While Johnson's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, declined to comment, Miami Dolphins team officials said they were "aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering of relevant information" soon after the incident.
Late Sunday, they announced that Ochocinco will no longer be playing for the team and they have "terminated the contract."
Johnson and Lozada are both active on the TV scene, with the couple featuring in HBO's 'Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Miami Dolphins' and Lozada herself starring in VH1's 'Basketball Wives'.
