Jennifer Aniston [photos]'s father was playing dumb when he told a reporter he had no idea that his daughter had just gotten engaged to Justin Theroux.
"It's the first I've heard about it," John said when a reporter called him after news broke yesterday. "It's a surprise to me. I'll have to look online. When I find out more, I guess I'll tell you."
But the 43-year-old actress' publicist says it the soap star was just playing dumb because he didn't want to spill the beans.
"John Aniston knew but was not aware when we would go public so he didn't want to be tricked by someone on the phone and pretended not to know," says her rep. "He was caught off guard by someone calling him directly."
Aniston and Theroux have been together since May of 2011, after getting together on the set of 'Wanderlust'.
