Joe Jackson has dropped the wrongful death civil suit he filed against Conrad Murray, who was convicted of manslaughter in the Michael Jackson's death.
No reason has been given for the suit being dropped but Murray's attorney is understandably pleased.
"We are relieved that the civil suit has been dismissed voluntarily," says Murray's attorney, Valerie Wass. "It was always my opinion that Joe Jackson lacked standing to bring this action, and that eventually the case would be dismissed."
"It has been a miserable three years for Dr. Murray and he continues to pray for the peace and well being of the entire Jackson family."
The 84-year-old sued Murray in June 2010, on the one-year anniversary of his son's death, claiming Murray's negligence directly resulted in Michael Jackson's death.
Even though Joe was not named in Jackson's will, his lawsuit had contended that "as a result of that failure, Jackson was deprived with the loss of companionship of his son."
